Peter Lam | Composer | Biography

London-based Peter Lam is a composer for the concert hall, film and media.

Currently a final-year music student, Peter studies composition with Rob Keeley at King’s College London. His previous teachers inlcude Joseph Phibbs at King's and Nick Gray at the School of Oriental & African Studies (ethno-musical composition), and have achieved first class grades for both composition courses. Besides composition, Peter has enrolled in a wide range of technical modules - working on harmony and counterpoint, as well as studying orchestration and computer transcription at the Royal Academy of Music.

 

Peter’s concert music ranges from chamber pieces to orchestral works, and has been performed by the Dulwich Symphony, Ensemble Novus, CLFS Orchestra, as well as soloists such as Satoshi Okamoto and Pascual Martinez-Forteza amongst others. Peter is a winner of the Philip Mckenna Young Composer Award, and his woodwind music is published by Contemporary British Wind Sheet Music (CBWSM).

 

Equally passionate in creating music for film and media, Peter enrolled in the ‘Composing for Film, Drama & Animation’ course at the Faber Media Music Academy, hosted by leading British film composers. He has since then scored multiple short films of various genres - from animation, drama, to art and cityscape films, and worked with filmmakers from various countries - Australia, China, Macedonia, New Zealand, US and UK, with productions ranging from graduate dissertation films to festival-winning entries. Recently-scored animated short 'Lovebites' has received commendation and selection at ANIMEX 2015 and Original Narrative Dubai.

 

Being a double-winner of Nokia’s ‘Sounds of the World’ ringtone competition, two of Peter’s jingles are acquired by the Nokia Sound Team, and to be preloaded into the new Microsft Lumia devices for regional markets. Peter has also composed the score as well as created the sound design for 'Limehouse Blues' - an experimental choral project with artist Tommy Ting, Stef Conner, Mary Cork and Force Majeure, funded by the Arts Council England.

 

Comfortable in composing across various genres & medium with industry-standard equipments, Peter aims to deliver music of the highest quality, and is open to all kinds of collaborations.
